I screen recorded this tonight for a friend. I would like to share it here also.
It is a scene from The Chosen. It is in Season 4 episode 3.
Very powerful.
* It turns out what I recorded was to big of a file to add as an attachment here, but I found most of it on Youtube.
It is a good representation of why we should be very careful about judging others about such things as whether or not we should observe Christmas, eat port and many other things.
We are to call people to repentance for sin, but most importantly we are to bring people to Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit is what convicts us of our sins so that we are drawn to repent of those sins.
If we are not careful, we can be very much like the pharisees. Jesus was very much against being like that.
Never forget the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Insulting other Christians for having a different viewpoint on what is and isn't allowed in Christianity such as celebrating Christmas, or clean and unclean foods is not of the fruit of the Spirit.
If it was so cut and dry on whether these things are ok or not, there wouldn't be so many different perspectives about it.
Stay focused to the most important things that Jesus taught, love God and love thy neighbor, while keeping to the fruits of the Spirit such as being gentle and kind when teaching the gospel.
I'm telling you from experience. I used to be very rough around the edges. Gentle and kind was not something people would describe me as. (Maybe sometimes, but I could also be very much like the pharisees in this video clip. I am ashamed of it. It's easy to fall into when you want to help save the world. That's not how Jesus wants it done. He wants us to use kindness and gentleness not a stone in our hand ready to be thrown.
I've always had a warrior spirit. Been in many fights to prove it. I'm not proud of it. I'm just trying to tell you that, coming to Jesus means change. That change doesn't happen overnight, and we will probably keep finding things about ourselves that need changing till the day we die. I had to quit being so judgmental and harsh and realize that I have been every bit of a sinner as much as anyone else. Though our sin should stop us from warning others of the pitfalls of life, we need to be careful and do it in a loving way, and not with a battering ram.
Mark 12:28 Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”
29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Luke 10:25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”
27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
