This is the scariest truth in the whole Bible

It shouldn't be scary to those who earnestly follow Him.
In context He seems to be speaking of the false prophets that lead His flock astray for money and fame.
I don't think He is speaking of struggling Christians who mess up from time to time. He died on the cross for our sins, because no matter how hard we try we will never be able to live a perfect life in this imperfect world.
All Christians struggle with flesh in one way or another and it's a daily battle. Some of the battles are won, but not all of them.
When I stand before God's throne in judgement one day and if He asks me what I did to deserve to be saved. My reply would be NOTHING. Even our good deeds are filthy rags compared to the holiness of God. Jesus is the ONLY reason why I would be worthy of salvation.
When we follow Jesus, we sometimes feel horrible about our sins. That's a good thing. It means the Holy Spirit is calling us to holiness. We will always fall short of the Holiness of God. We should always strive to be Holy though. If we mess up, then repent and keep trying. God's forgiveness is infinite as long as we earnestly keep trying.
Never forget that God knows us more than we know ourselves. He knows our hearts and why we do the things that we do.
