I was a smoker for around 46 years.
I tried to quit many times and did quit one time for a year until my parents passed away and lit one up because of the stress. That one cigarette made me start back up again in being addicted again.
I quit smoking cigarettes for good around 2 years ago and quit vaping for good around a year ago.
There aren't any clear bible passages saying to not smoke but if you look at the bible as a whole, you know that anything that has you addicted, has you in bondage. Anything that has you addicted, has a power over you in which you have lost the battle and not allowed Jesus to help you win that battle. It's a fleshly desire and certainly not a desire of God for your life.
As Christians we have guidance via the Holy Spirit in our lives, and if you smoke and you are honest with yourself, you know you have felt that God really would want you to quit smoking for various reasons such as its bad for health, it doesn't set a good example for others, and it's a flesh idol-like desire.
Let's listen to what pastors have to say about it.
Can a person drink of smoke and be a Christian?
What does the bible say about smoking tobacco. Is it as sin?
Will smoking send you to Hell?
Deanne "I quit smoking with God's help."
The way to quit for good is no matter how hard the craving hits DO NOT light up a cigarette. It's that simple.
Quit buying them and bringing them into your home. Do not bum one from a friend.
All it takes is that one cigarette to bring you back into the addiction full swing.
If you don't light that one up, you'll never smoke again.
Gum helped me a lot. I still get a light craving occasionally, and when I do I chew a piece of gum.
It really does get easier with time.
